You can see pics and hear the interview here. Steve Mead caught up with the band at the 100 Club and you can see pics and hear the interview here. We welcomed the former national champion at Sabre Wulf MJ HIBBETT into the Phoenix studios, and we all agreed it was a truly GRATE experience. You can hear the interview again here: Part 1 - intro Part 2 - some Q & A Part 3 - a bit more Q & A Part 4 - acoustic versions of Hey Hey 16K and Things'll Be Different Part 5 - acoustic versions of Fair Play Trophy and Easily Impressed Part 6 - acoustic versions of Billy Jones Is Dead and Boom! Shake The Room We managed to catch Hampshire rock trio REUBEN on the phone just before they took the stage at Leicester Charlotte in support of their excellent new single, Freddy Kruger. You can listen to the interview by clicking here. Organiser of the TMF, Jo Delaney, came to Phoenix FM in May 2004 to announce that this year's festival will be taking place on 7 August. She also mentioned some of the great bands lined up to take part but we can't tell you that yet :-) You can hear Eddie's interview with Jo here: Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 Steve Mead and Eddie Curry visited the Brass Monkey in Hastings to see former Carter USM singer JIM BOB knock out a whole load of his stuff from the last 15 years with just one voice and one guitar. Steve also managed to have a very nice chat which you can hear here. Steve Mead's review: 16/5/2004 The Brass Monkey, Hastings A lovely warm mid-may evening and what is a young man to do with himself? Why he rings the station manager and arranges for the pair of them to gun the 70ish miles to Hastings to see one of their boyhood heroes, well late teenagehood anyway. So I sorted out my '2,4,6,8 Motorway' tape, put on my Sunday best and we headed for the coast to see Jim Bob of Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine perform an acoustic gig and readings from his new book, 'Goodnight Jim Bob, On The Road With Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine'. We arrive in Hastings 10 minutes before the start of the show and it smells like every other seaside town, of fresh do-nuts (or at least the fat that they are cooked in), we buy the beers, Eddie is off the booze and so just has a pint of lager, and settle in for the show. The stage is set out giving the appearance of a school play, it has a lone stool, a small table with a mixture of condiments on top of it, two acoustic guitars and a large screen upon which early Carter USM Pictures are projected on during the show. He takes the stage looking nervous, not the aggressive persona I remember of old, and performs old Carter USM songs acoustically, it is amazing, at one point he forgets the lyrics and the audience gladly prompt him. The set is interspersed with seemingly random readings from the book, after all the idea of the tour is to sell copies, and is broken into two 45 minute segments. At half time we were lucky enough to grab an interview with the man himself. He was surprisingly amiable, I was quite nervous after all I used to hold this guy up on a pedestal. After answering my hastily cobbled together questions we left him for 5 minutes peace before resuming the set. Back downstairs we bumped into Les 'Fruitbat' Carter and I know everyone else in the audience was willing him up on the stage, but alas it never happened. After another 40 mins of readings and brilliantly performed acoustic songs came the encore Sheriff Fatman and Bloodspot For All, amazing!! The intimate surroundings definitely heightened the pleasure of this gig, and yes we did buy the book (3 copies in all). We headed back for Essex feeling warm inside and with one final thought for Hastings... IT STINKS! You can hear the interview with Steve Mead and Natalie Smith here: Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 (0) comments Back on the internet - June 2004 shows Mull Historical Society - How 'Bout I Love You More Delays - Long Time Coming Rooney - I'm Shakin' Inspiral Carpets feat Mark E Smith - I Want You (International) Noise Conspiracy - Black Mask Muse - Plug In Baby Hives - Walk Idiot Walk Velvet Revolver - Slither Spoon - Lines In The Suit Gene - Fighting Fit Whyte Seeds - Black Key Song Hidingplace - (What If) The Truth Looks Clearer Empty Supergrass - Kiss Of Life Toploader - Let The People Know Thirteen Senses - Do No Wrong Kasabian - LSF Kill Kenada - Massachusettes Murder Medallions Billy Talent - River Below Radio Dept - Pulling Our Weight Cure - Burn Zutons - Remember Me Killers - Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine Bloc Party - Little Thoughts Strokes - Hard To Explain Pure Reason Revolution - Apprentice Of The Universe Hundred Reasons - What You Get Charlotte Hatherley - Kim Wilde Libertines - Time For Heroes A Girl Called Eddy - Somebody Hurt You Mon 8-10 Digital Blues Wed 8-10 Digital Blues Tue 8-9 Stetsons Wed 10-12 Lovely Love Songs Fri 8-10 BOA Show 8 - Friday 28 May 2004 BOA to Z, that's right Eddie was away on holiday and Steve was struggling for ideas so he put together an A to Z of alternative music.
